Business Matters

Each phase in the life of a business requires that the owner make choices that have legal consequences:

Start-up or Purchase of
an existing business
Day to day operation Sale, transfer or closing
Negotiating the purchase and preparing the transaction documents Credit agreements Negotiating the terms and preparing the sale documents
Corporate formation Contracts with customers and vendors State Bulk Transfer Laws
Choosing an ownership structure Employee discipline Dealing with creditors and receivables
Employment policies Collections Real estate issues
Special licenses Litigation Non-compete clauses
Zoning approval issues Advertising Licensing agreements
Commercial leases Trademarks Indemnification agreements

The expense and stress of handling legal matters in the operation of a business is greatly reduced if the business owner is proactive and consults with a qualified attorney to plan ahead rather than wait until a legal problem arises. At our firm we can help you with this important planning so that your business will be positioned to operate profitably with the fewest possible legal concerns. Of course, not every issue can be foreseen. If you find that a legal problem that you hadn't planned for arises, our firm can help with that as well.

Nick Ferrante has counseled business owners on all of the issues listed above and he has represented companies of all sizes in Courts throughout the State of Maryland. If you are in business, or you plan to start a business please contact our office at (410) 535-6100 for a free initial consultation.

Personal Injury

Nobody chooses to get hurt, but if you are injured by someone else's actions you may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering, missed work, medical expenses and future disability. The people who handle these claims for the insurance companies are experienced and highly trained. Their goal is to act in the best interests of the insurance company, not yours. Being represented by a lawyer experienced in this area of the law can increase your chances for a good result.

Earlier in his career Nick Ferrante represented the large national corporations and insurance companies that ordinary people must face when they find themselves injured in an accident. As your attorney he can use that experience to get you the best possible outcome. He has worked on a broad range of cases in this area of the law – from small claims to million dollar cases – and usually there is no fee unless he obtains a verdict or settlement in the client's favor.

If you feel that you have been hurt by someone else's actions and you would like to discuss the matter with an attorney call (410) 535-6100 to schedule a free initial consultation.

Criminal Matters

The counties of Southern Maryland are "law and order" jurisdictions – meaning law enforcement officials and the Courts take violations of the law very seriously. If you are facing any type of criminal charges, other than minor traffic, you are usually best served by having an attorney by your side in Court. Your attorney will be able to evaluate the State's evidence against you, prepare a defense and represent you at your trial. If a plea bargain is more appropriate for your case then your attorney can evaluate the offer and advise you as to your best course of action.

Nick Ferrante has represented clients in criminal matters in many jurisdictions throughout Maryland. He also has experience in MVA hearings and cases where the client holds a security clearance which may be impacted by the outcome of the criminal matter. If you want to discuss your case with Mr. Ferrante please call (410) 535-6100 to make an appointment.
